Iker Casillas earns 100th cap as Spain Captain

Spanish national team captain Iker Casillas was elated with his side’s 2-0 Euro 2016 Qualifying match win over Slovakia on Saturday evening in Oviedo, which also marked his return to his starting place over David De Gea.
In his post-match interview, Casillas stressed the importance of the victory over a Slovakia side who had beat them in their previous group stage match and topping the groups.
“It was a very important win. It was a relief to get the win, we were looking for the victory and we earned it. We played very well and created chances just as we had before.”
Casillas, who earned his 100th cap as captain in his first game as a former Real Madridplayer, feels that the squad was exhausted from the season when they played the first games in the group, as well as the integration of the younger players, but feels that they are now gaining confidence and a rhythm.“The problems with the games before were that we were exhausted from the season and we were still adapting. We’ve won and we played very well.”Casillas, who is in fine form with his new club Porto, spoke about his own personal performance and how he feels in the month since leaving Real Madrid.“I’m doing well where I am and I’m happy. I’m trying to find consistency.”
The captain finally discussed the boos and whistles directed at centre-back Gerard Pique, who fans have still signaled out due to his comments about Real Madrid at the end of the last season, which has now taken on a life of it’s own, something Casillas hopes doesn’t continue.“We’ll see if we all can redirect the [whistles and boos] against Pique, we want everyone to applaud the whole squad.”
